It never ceases to amaze us here at FMI Rentals how quickly every year passes. It feels as if we have barely emptied the recycle bin of all our champagne bottles from New Year’s before it is time to start celebrating Halloween again! So, here we are again, facing the end of 2025, and if you are realizing it is time to start looking forward to the new year and the vacations you will take, we have at least one suggestion for you. Of course, we are suggesting a Rocky Point, Mexico beach vacation, and because you still have a little bit of time before you have to decide, we have created this season by season guide to a Rocky Point vacation, helping you find the perfect season in which to head south of the border!
Your Winter Retreat to Rocky Point
If you are ok with not swimming in the sea during your beach vacation to Rocky Point, the winter months may be the best time to visit, offering days that are still warm in comparison to many other places in winter, fewer crowds, and even less chance of storms. Even if you can’t swim (water temperatures will be in the high 50s), sunny days may entice you to stake your claim on some prime beach spots, working on your tan as you let the serenity of the Sea of Cortez fill your soul with its magic.
December Adventures
Although winter doesn’t technically begin until the third week of the month, for our purposes here, we are going to classify the entire month as winter. (Don’t worry, we will make up the difference in March!) And even as December is known to be the off-season, be aware that as it gets closer to Christmas, the crowds will pick up a bit, especially as it is possible to enjoy water activities when wearing a wetsuit and visitors from colder climates may even find the 60-something degree water bracing and invigorating, enjoying quick swims during the warmest parts of the day.

Christmas is a well-loved holiday in Rocky Point, so if you are planning your visit for Christmas, understand that most businesses and restaurants will be closed for the holiday and plan accordingly. Christmas events include the Parade of Lights (generally held around the 3rd week of the month) and Christmas at the Point, a holiday market held early in the month. We love decorating for Christmas as much as the Americans do, and you can count on enjoying colorful lights and beautiful decorations throughout the town.
January and February in Rocky Point
January marks the beginning of whale watching season, because even though the water is too cold for humans, it is positively a tropical experience for the largest mammals in the water! Expect to see both fin and humpback whales as they make their way to warmer waters, and while it is possible that you will be able to catch sight of them from the shores, especially at Las Conchas Beach, local boat tour companies will shift from dolphin watching (you will still see dolphins!) to whale watching, including Eco Fun Adventures and Del Mar Charters.
These months are also great months to experience horseback rides on the beach, golf at the Jack Nicklaus designed course at Vidanta, and fishing, either from the shore of on a chartered expedition. This quiet tourist season is perhaps the best time to visit, as prices will be lower, crowds will practically be non-existent, and your experiences may be more authentic than those experienced during high tourist season.
Spring in Rocky Point
Just as we chose the month of December to be the start of winter, we are choosing the month of March to start spring. The water has warmed considerably, the temperatures begin to rise, and college students will arrive in droves, eager to begin their Spring Break shenanigans.
March Meanderings
If you do decide to make your journey to Rocky Point in March, you can still sign up for whale watching trips, as March is the final month of the season. Warmer temperatures will enable you to swim in resort or private pools, and water activities like parasailing and kayaking are popular once again. This is a busy time for tourist activities, so you may want to reserve your favorite activities in advance, to ensure you won’t miss out on anything.
April and May Adventures in Rocky Point
After Spring Break ends, the crowds dwindle, making April and May (through Memorial Day Weekend) perhaps the most ideal time to visit our coastal village. This part of spring is low season, but as the temperatures climb even higher, it is also a fantastic time to enjoy long days at the beach, bringing out the jet skis, riding the banana boats, or just swimming, splashing, or lazily floating in the surf.

This is also a great time to visit El Pinacate Biosphere Reserve, our local UNESCO World Heritage Site, especially as the days will be warm, but not so hot as to make your explorations uncomfortable. Golf is popular in the spring, as is paddleboarding, and even though it will be too late to see the whales, dolphin and sunset boat tours regain their popularity. You may also discover that this journey is the perfect time to visit the Tequila Factory, sampling all the flavors and bringing home a bottle or three to enjoy in your FMI Rentals seasonal sanctuary!
Verano (Summer) in Rocky Point
The most popular time for taking a vacation is in the summer months, so expect crowded beaches, clubs, and restaurants. If you can’t handle heat, you might want to ensure that your vacation takes place in June or perhaps July, before the mercury and the humidity rises in August.
June & July
We may have left whale season, but shark season starts in June, and if you are looking for a different type of fishing adventure, shark fishing is popular from June through September! Imagine the daredevil points you will accrue when the photos of you wrestling with a shark fighting the business end of your fishing line hits your favorite social media site and discover that shark meat is actually quite delicious when you catch your limit.
June and July are also the perfect time to party the night away at the top local clubs, including Manny’s Beach Club, JJ’s Cantina, and Boo Bar Cantina. Offering sandy dance floors and live music playing under the dark night sky, summer adventures will be enhanced by this typical Rocky Point adventures. August is also a popular time for exploring oyster farms, dancing the night away, and of course, relaxing pool side in your summer sanctuary.

Falling for Fall in Rocky Point
What makes fall perhaps the best season to visit is that although the rest of the world has returned to real life, sipping pumpkin spice lattes in corduroys and fall jackets, it still feels like summer in Rocky Point! The humidity lessens, the temperatures drop to more comfortable levels, and the world is your oyster as you frolic in the surf, explore El Pinacate, and shop till you drop at the local stores.
The prices of items drop even lower during this time of year, and because the heat has backed off you will feel like extending your shopping sprees even longer, enabling you to find the most creative Christmas gifts. Pottery, tequila, silver and turquoise jewelry; all of these things and so much more will find there way into your luggage and the money you save on Christmas presents this year may encourage you to make a fall escape to Rocky Point an annual tradition!
The ‘ber Months in Rocky Point
These last months of the year are truly an idyllic time, blending holiday celebrations with beachy fun, and yes, even Halloween can be more exciting when experienced in Rocky Point, especially if you stick around through the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) that follows closely behind all Hallow’s Eve. Offering parades, musical experiences, and special foods, this Mexican holiday may end up being your favorite one to celebrate, even once you return home.
Thanksgiving is popular with Americans in Rocky Point, especially as it isn’t a Mexican holiday and all the restaurants will remain open, with some even offering traditional turkey feasts. If you do decide that you want to cook for the holiday, you won’t have to pack a turkey in your carry on, because Sam’s Club is now open here and you can buy whatever you need there! (Yes, that includes their delicious pumpkin pies!)
