It is still possible to underestimate how much you should plan on spending, however, and we at FMI Rentals don’t want you to be forced to miss out on something because it is out of your budget range, so we have prepared this guide to the expenses you can expect during your Mexican trip of a lifetime, ensuring that you will get to play in all the ways you have always dreamed of doing, without having to make any sacrifices.
In Preparation
Traveling to Mexico involves a little more prep work than is necessary when staying within the US, but a little education will ensure that you are prepared. A passport or passport card will be needed, so be sure to plan a head and budget for the $130 passport cost or $30 passport card. Additionally, a Mexico Tourist Permit (FMM) is needed, even in the free zone, but if you arrive or leave within seven days, the permit is free. What is the Free Zone, you ask? It is an area inside of Mexico that doesn’t require the next document on our list, a Temporary Vehicle Importation Permit, and yes, you guessed it, Rocky Point is within the Free Zone.
If you plan to travel outside that free zone, though, you will need the permit, and it can cost you an additional $55. Finally, the last item on our prep checklist is Mexican Liability Insurance, something that every car will need to have. Costs can differ, depending on how long you are staying, the vehicle you are driving, and the level of insurance, but prices start at $30 and will stay on the lower range, ensuring it is still affordable for you to drive your car while in Mexico.
Fishing
The waters that surround Rocky Point make it a popular fishing destination and costs for fishing here can range from absolutely free to quite expensive, depending on your choices. Unlike in our country, no fishing license is required for those fishing from the shore, so feel free to set up a lawn chair, bring a cooler, and spend much of your days getting your line wet in the surf, bringing home your catch of the day to prepare on the grill outside your FMI Rentals Rocky Point retreat.
If you are planning on fishing from a boat, however, you will need a license, something that will cost between 312 and 2011 pesos ($15.42 and $99.41 in US Dollars) These permits can be picked up at Capitania de Puerto or the Mexican Consulate. Now, if you are thinking of hiring a fishing charter, the costs involve can fluctuate greatly. Rocky Point Fishing Charters charges a one time charge of $380 for up to 10 anglers when you choose their three-hour charter.
Epicurean Adventures
The fully equipped kitchen in your FMI Rentals sanctuary will help lessen the pain on your budget as you choose to eat at home for some of your meals, but the reasonable prices and delicious foods offered by local restaurants will make you want to dine out as much as possible. Chef Mickey’s Place, located at Blvd. Dr. Francisco Javier Carrillo Ruiz, is known for its Italian meals, and we are continually shocked every time we order their surf and turf dish which comes with filet mignon and garlic shrimp and we only have to pay $43! Practically every restaurant in Rocky Point is reasonably priced, ensuring you will get more taste bang for you buck and will leave you happy that you chose this area for your south of the border getaway.
Whale Watching
As winter retains a tight hold on your hometown, the warmer weather and water attracts whales from all over, with prime whale watching season taking place from mid-February through late March and many local companies offer whale watching tours that take you to where they breach the most. Rocky Point Adventures, offering a variety of water tours including sunset cruises and dolphin watching tours, is also a great whale watching company. Offering whale watching cruises that last about three hours and cost $49 for adults, $39 for Children 11-17, and $29 for children aged 3; under 3 is free, making this adventure one that will fit comfortably into most budgets.
