Jesse’s Carreta is a popular family-friendly restaurant offering colorful, unique décor (the jungle-themed restroom never fails to impress ALL ages). Travel Tips for a Stress-Free Rocky Point Vacation
Prepare for the Border Crossing
For many, the most worrisome part of their journey is crossing the border. The border is where most drama happens, at least on television shows, but your visit to Rocky Point doesn’t have to be that way.
Roll down all the windows of your car, stop at the stop sign, and understand that you aren’t always going to be stopped. The Gastrak station, located on the US side of the border right at the crossing, is where you can buy snacks, beverages, and Mexican car insurance (necessary).
The electronic inspection sign can be a bit nerve-racking, as it makes all sorts of noises, but generally, when you are stopped, all that will happen is questioning. Sometimes they will ask you to get out of your car, and sometimes they will rummage through your coolers to ensure you haven’t brought anything across that is not allowed.
Have Local Currency and Payment Options Available
Not all shops and restaurants will accept cards, and many prefer that you pay in cash. Pesos are the best value and are preferred, but almost all businesses will take American dollars. When you use credit cards, you may be asked whether you want to be billed in US dollars or Mexican pesos; for better exchange rates, always choose pesos.
