A beach vacation south of the border is a good idea any time of the year, but as the end of the year holidays approach and stress levels rise, a beach vacation in Rocky Point (and a stay in our FMI Rentals seasonal sanctuaries!) may just be the best idea of all time. Offering warm weather that isn’t too hot, beaches that aren’t too crowded, and restaurant wait times that aren’t too long, the off season in Mexico can help quiet the noises in your brain while introducing the most delicious sense of lethargy, ensuring that by the time you come back to real life, you will have the strength and fortification to deal whatever it throws at you. This guide to a vacation in the quiet season of Rocky Point will help you prepare and deal with the stuff life throws at you before your getaway as well.
Festivals of Fun
We admit, it won’t be very quiet when you attend October Country Music Fest at the Esmeralda Beach Resort, but the music will definitely help quiet your soul. Occurring October 4th through 6th and sponsored by the Cowboy Lifestyle Network Music Group, the Sea of Cortez is a beautiful backup singer to the musicians performing on stage. VIP tickets provide access to all events over all three days, including 10 drinks a day and access to the Thursday night Pre-Party and Jam on the beach.
Worried about the aftereffects of 10 plus drinks a day? For an additional fee, participants can purchase IV Myers Vitamin Cocktail Therapy and suffer no more! Single-day and three-day passes are also available at a lower price, but no drinks are included with the General Admission tickets.
The Beach Is Yours
The Gulf waters will stay warm late into the fall and the sunshine will still be shining brightly making a day at the beach seem like a very excellent idea. Grab your gear and head out for a day of sun and surf, and if you have traveled to Rocky Point during the high season, you will immediately notice the difference this time.
Quiet (except for the waves crashing against the shore and the sea birds loudly celebrating their meals) and sparsely populated, you may feel as if the beach is yours alone, something that will amp up the levels of peace and fun as you explore tide pools with your toddlers, build sandcastles with your tweens, and show off your bodyboard skills to your surprised teens, this vacation will rise in the ranks to the best one yet.
Snorkel and Swim with the Sea Lions on Bird Island
Bird Island, also known as Isla San Jorge, is an uninhabited island serving as a protected habitat for a wide selection of animals, including sea lions and flocks of migratory birds. We aren’t allowed to step foot on the island, but Del Mar Charters offers snorkeling and kayaking tours around the island, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with the creatures, albeit at a safe distance. During the fall months, the island’s bird population multiplies as migratory birds leave their cold weather homes and go south for the winter, making the island a birdwatcher’s paradise.
Swimming in the warm waters that surround the island is a joyful experience and don’t be surprised if you suddenly realize that your fellow swimmers are the barking sea lions that make Bird Island their home. Tours can be booked from the Del Mar Charters website, with ticket costs including lunch (burritos) soft drinks, beer, and margaritas, and the equipment needed for snorkeling and kayaking.
A Taste Tour of Rocky Point
The restaurants of Rocky Point offer some of the most delicious meals in the country and in the quiet season, waiting lists promise to be much shorter, ensuring that you and your family will be seated, served, and savoring cuisine of our country in short order. Lucky’s Cantina (Circunvalación y o Malecón Kino 26), La Casa del Capitan (Av Camino del Agua s/n), and the Blue Marlin (Calle Ignacio Zaragoza 11) are some of our favorite spots for homestyle meals. If you love a good margarita, we suggest a visit to Margarita Mermaids (Circunvalación El Malecon), where 20 different flavors of margaritas will certainly pique your interest and quench your thirst.
