You may not have an entire week to take a beach break, but that’s ok. A Rocky Point weekend getaway will offer benefits you can’t imagine, providing relaxation, fun, and all the comforts of home in our FMI Rentals weekend retreats. And because we want you to have the best time, we have created these 2- to 3-day itineraries filled with fun, excitement, and deliciousness—all you have to do is show up and be happy!
Reaching Rocky Point
Located near the US Border, taking a short trip to Rocky Point is easy. For travelers coming in from further away, flying to Arizona’s Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and then driving is a popular option for commercial travel; those flying private planes can fly directly to Rocky Point’s Mar de Cortés International Airport. Those already near the border can skip directly to driving!

Easy Border Crossing and What to Expect
For many travelers, crossing the border can cause some uneasiness, but being prepared and knowing what to expect can alleviate this. The town of Lukeville, Arizona, is where you will cross, with the border staying open from 6 AM until 8 PM.
- We recommend crossing during the daylight hours, allowing enough time to make the hour+ trip to Rocky Point while the sun is shining.
- You will need your passport, Mexican car insurance, and your car registration. There are plenty of places to purchase Mexican car insurance online, but if you forget, the Gastrak Gas Station in Lukeville is the home of Sanborn’s Mexican insurance.
- There will be a line, so be patient, and when you reach the booth, it is good to open all the windows of your car, so the Mexican Border Officials can see inside your car.
- Red and green lights will tell you when to stop and when to go.
Why Weekend Travelers Love FMI Rentals
Once you’ve crossed the border, Highway 8 is a safe corridor, offering a quick drive and a fantastic start to your Rocky Point weekend getaway. It takes a little over an hour to reach town, and once you are there, it won’t take long to find your FMI Rentals vacation retreat.
You only have to step inside the front door for the first time to understand why weekend travelers love our places, offering a modern vacation experience with a touch of the old country in their décor. Spacious rooms, comfortable furnishings, and all the luxury amenities will make you eager to unpack and explore all the treasures that await.

How to Plan a 2-3 Day Trip to Rocky Point
A little planning makes your Rocky Point weekend getaway go more smoothly, enabling visitors to spend more time playing and less time deciding what they want to do during their short trip to Rocky Point. We’ve added some tips to make planning easier.
Best Time of the Year to Visit
Timing can make all the difference, and although there is no bad time for a Rocky Point weekend getaway, a visit in September (after Labor Day) may make you happiest. The temperatures will still be warm enough to swim, and the sun will be shining, but the crowds will be fewer. Costs drop when tourists go back home, and wide-open beaches give travelers who choose this time of year to visit the feeling that the world is their oyster.
What to Pack
Packing for Rocky Point is easy. Swimsuits, shorts, T-shirts, and sundresses are all you will need for clothing. For your skin’s protection, we recommend sunscreen, sunglasses, and a sun hat. Flip flops and sandals are the perfect footwear.
Choosing the Right Rental
Now it’s time to choose the right rental for your weekend trip to Rocky Point, and this could be the easiest decision of your adventure. FMI Rentals offers a variety of desirable vacation rental properties, ensuring you’ll be able to find the perfect option for your trip. The three main things you will want to consider are as follows:
- Do you want a condo or a standalone home?
- Do you want to live on the beach or near the beach?
- Would you like a private pool?
