The Plaza de la Madre is our favorite place to be during the holiday season in Rocky Point, decked out in colorful lights that shimmer against the dark skies at night. There hasn’t been any information released as to when the official lighting ceremony will take place, but historically it has always fallen on the first weekend of December. In any case, whether you attend the lighting ceremony or simply visit the plaza after it is already alight, this light display is destined to get you in the mood to sing Christmas carols (Everyone knows all the words to Feliz Navidad, so there shouldn’t be any language barriers!), buy gifts (the shops of Rocky Point offer distinctive gifts that recipients will cherish forever), and to savor every moment of this most giving and meaningful holiday.
Mermaid’s Market
Mermaid’s Market is the area’s oldest continuously running open air market, selling arts and crafts and offering food vendors that will supply a traditional taste of Mexico and during the Christmas holidays, they too dress up each stall with a variety of lights and ornaments, providing a cheerful ambience to a holiday that will never be forgotten. Cholla Bay Light Parade, Date TBD
The Cholla Bay Light Parade is a local celebration of Christmas with participants decorating their golf carts or cars with a variety of lights and driving around Cholla Bay, passing out candy and spreading the holiday mood. We don’t know what date they are planning on appearing this year, and we aren’t even sure that they will be holding the parade, but if you get lucky and happen to be here when the procession begins, we can promise that a good time will be had by all who view it. In past years there have been as many as 30 vehicles meandering through the area, and the creativity of the participants always bring us joy.
Any of the Shops and Many of the Businesses in Rocky Point
We like to celebrate Christmas as much as you do, and it will show in the decorations that adorn our local shops and restaurants. Sneak away from the rest of the family for shopping expeditions that will infect you with the spirit of the holiday as you dip in and out of local shops, admiring the lights, the decorations, and the really cool merchandize you probably haven’t seen anywhere else.
