During the winter of 2011, the local residents of Puerto Peñasco, Sonora enjoyed the local Farmer’s market. Year after year, they would visit the market and look through the various produce options and various crafts that were for sale. But in the fall of the next year, the market was no longer there—the vendors nowhere to be found, and the locals left without a popular attraction. This hole left in the entertainment of locals and visitors alike spawned the creation of a new Rocky Point market, however, one issue was that produce was no longer available for sale. The creators then choose a new type of market, The Mermaid’s Market.

This Rocky Point market is a new type of arts and crafts market that is held on the first and third Saturdays from mid-October thru April each year at the Shrimp Plaza in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. This plaza is located at the center of town and allows for maximum accessibility for all those who wish to attend.

The market is free to attend, but there is a fee to become a vendor at the market. Booth fees are used to benefit local DIF, which gives needed assistance to local vulnerable families and children. Not only can you attend to get some very unique wares, but most of the proceeds will go towards helping the unfortunate.

Make sure you check out this unique approach to an arts and crafts market, or some of the many other Puerto Penasco tourist attractions on your next Mexico vacation. Contact our office today for more details!
