Top Reasons to Visit Rocky Point in the Off-Season

Just as some seasons are busier in your life than others, vacation destinations go through their own slow seasons, times when the influx of tourists slows, the vibe calms, and life becomes quieter for the locals. We treasure these moments, we really do, but we also miss our guests, and as such, we invite you to explore the option of visiting during our shoulder seasons, enjoying a vacation with a completely different vibe and experiencing more than a few benefits as you do. This guide to the top reasons to visit Rocky Point in the off-season may just have you packing your bags and flying the friendly skies far sooner than you originally planned, and that is perfectly alright with us!

First, When Is Off-Season in Rocky Point?

Off-season in Rocky Point is different than what you might think, as the summer months are when our beaches are the quietest. Summers in Rocky Point can be very hot, and so travelers tend to turn elsewhere in search for their vacation fun, and this can be a good thing for those who can only take their annual leaves in the summer months. If the heat worries you, there is also something we call shoulder season, a period between high and low tourist times, where the weather is perfect and the quiet is still easily attained. Shoulder season in Rocky Point is at its best in September through November. Some studies say that spring (April and May) is our second shoulder season, but you will have to share the beaches with Spring Breakers, and not every traveler is ok with that. In the fall months, however, the water is still warm enough to swim, the sun shines more than not (although September is still rainy season), and as the rest of the world is heading back to work, back to school, back to real life, Rocky Point can be your own personal paradise!

Save Money

The thing about the off-season is that just about everything is cheaper. Your flight to Mexico will cost less, as the airlines are trying to entice travelers to just get away, and with the cost of air travel these days, every penny you can save is a good thing. Lodging can also cost you less, and yes, that can include your FMI Rentals Rocky Point retreat, and you’ve seen the pictures—getting a discount on our luxurious and colorful beachy escapes is certainly something no one would say no to! The reduction in prices can include restaurant meals, groceries, attractions, even souvenirs, although as the prices are already incredibly low in our downtown shops, they might not be that much less in cost. By now, we’re sure you get the point; you can save money simply by traveling in the off-season, and everyone is definitely happy about that.

Visit Rocky Point and Stay Longer

We can’t do anything about the amount of vacation days that you have available to you each year, but we can assure that with lower prices on everything, you can afford to add an extra day or two to your Mexican journey. Maybe you will be able to visit all the clubs, dancing until the wee hours of the night and sleeping later every day, or maybe you will really have the time to book that tour of the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve, knowing that you won’t have to sacrifice your allotment of beach days to do it. Or maybe you will just buy an extra bottle of tequila from the Tequila Factory and spend every minute of your bonus days in Rocky Point sipping margaritas and watching the sun set and rise over the Sea of Cortez. There is no wrong way to fill in the blanks of your extended say, just lots and lots of wonderful options!

Where Are All the People?

Your favorite part of traveling during the off-season, however, just may be the lack of crowds. Beaches are quiet and serene, and you don’t have to worry about some stranger’s kids running over your towels in the section of sand you’ve claimed as your own. During some times of the off-season, you may find yourself wondering, “Where are all the people?” before you settle into your beach chair, take out your earbuds and let the music play out loud; there’s no one else around you, so you don’t have to be considerate of others that just aren’t there! And you know how you always wait until you’re practically starving to leave the beach, not wanting to miss out on one wonderful moment, and then by the time you reach the restaurant of your choice, you are hangry? Only to find out that the wait list is a long one, something that does not improve your mood. Wait lists in restaurants are shorter during the off-season, and depending on what time you are dining out, chances are you will be led to your table immediately, the chips and salsa will be put in place, and your hangry mood will switch to a blissful one with your first crunch bite!

More Availability

This topic goes hand in hand with saving money, and obviously, if there aren’t as many people around, there will be more open seats, more available rentals, and more places to sit as you listen to live music at places such as JJ’s Cantina or Manny’s Beach Club. Do you prefer a seat with more legroom on your plane? Less people will be fighting to get that A ticket, and so it will be yours. Seeking a rental with 6 bedrooms and beach views, but know that there aren’t that many rentals with those amenities? During off-season, the premium properties are the easiest to obtain. Your less expensive drinks will be served to you more quickly than at more popular times of the year, and as you dance barefoot in the sand at the clubs we mentioned, the night air will help you stay cool and comfortable, and your makeup won’t melt off your face! Life is better during the off-season of travel, but it doesn’t have to be boring!

One of Us

It’s not really talked about much, but the reality is that when you travel places while the rest of the world stays home, you enjoy a more authentic experience and may feel as if you are “one of us!” In other words, you will feel like a local as you eat where we eat, shop where we shop, and because there is more time, have discussions about everything as you dine because staff has more time to spend hanging around your table. We are friendly people here in Mexico, and if you give us the opportunity to talk, we will talk, offering hints on the best places to see the sunset, the shops with the lowest prices but the highest quality goods, and yes, we’ve even been known to give Spanish lessons of a sort to tourists who are obviously earnest in their desire to learn to say more than hello, thank you, goodbye, and where is the bathroom! (Hola, gracias, adios, and donde está el baño? In case you were wondering about the basics)

Festivals for the Rest of Us

Another way to really get to know the areas you are visiting during your travels is to attend their local festivals, and your summer visit in June should include attending the Circus Mexicus. Generally held the first week of June, this musical extravaganza started out relatively modestly about 25 years ago with our favorite practically local band, Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, performing on the Sunset Cantina’s rooftop patio, and magic was born. Today, Circus Mexicus is a six-day music festival, featuring the performances of over 30 bands and offering VIP dinners (for an added cost) as well as all the cocktails you can drink! June is still a relatively cool time of year out here in Rocky Point, with temperatures mostly staying beneath the century mark, so as you party with the locals (and a few diehard Americans!), you won’t “glow” as much as you might during the hottest months of the off-season. Stay in our Circus Mexicus rentals that provide the comfort, serenity, and quiet luxuries!

Slowing Down the Pace

To be perfectly authentic with you, time moves slowly in Rocky Point, no matter what time of year you are visiting, but we seem to slow down even more in the off-season, and after the hustle and bustle of real life, the slower pace is something you probably really need. Summer slows us down even more—no one wants to walk fast in triple-digit heat—and we know that wherever we are going, we will get there eventually! Sleep in an extra hour, look at every piece of merchandise in that colorful pottery shop, and yes, order another margarita while dining out on the town, because there is no hurry to move on to the next activity. Whatever it is you have been wanting to do for so long will still be waiting for you when you roll out of bed, walk out of the store, and push away from the table. And even though Rocky Point never really moves in fast forward, if you have visited our coastal town during busy season, you will definitely notice the very wonderful difference, and we think your soul will appreciate it!

See More, Do More

One other benefit of traveling during the off-season or even the shoulder season is that it will feel as if you have more time, and with that extra time you can see and do so much more. The difference is noticeable, making you feel as if someone added an hour or two to your 24-hour day, but all that has really happened is that you don’t spend so much time waiting. Less time on the waiting list at lunch means you don’t just get to eat sooner, but you may be able to make it to the Rodeo Drive of Rocky Point (Cholla Mall) AND have time left over to explore the Malecon after. When the crowds are filling the streets, beaches, and restaurants, it could push the Malecon off to the next day, which could mean that you don’t have time to explore Bird Island on the snorkeling tour you wanted to do. Do you see how it works now? These are just a few of the many reasons that traveling during the off-season in Rocky Point makes so much sense, giving you an authentic vacation experience that is both restful and chock full of fun!

And Now, Some Reasons for Choosing FMI Rentals for Your Off-Season Vacation Experience

We can’t let you leave without showing you a little bit about what you can expect from our off-season sanctuaries. If you have visited before, you may be wondering if there is any difference between our off-season sanctuaries and peak season retreats, and we are happy to reassure you with the truth; they are one and the same, and the only difference may be in the length of your stay. You will have saved enough money from traveling at this time of year that you may be able to extend your stay an extra day! Just think, eight days instead of seven, spent watching the sun set over the Gulf every evening and dancing on sandy dance floors every evening. Maybe you will become a “regular” at your favorite restaurants, or maybe you and your extended family will take turns fixing tacos and salsa in our fully equipped kitchens every evening. There’s no limit to the fun and relaxation you will enjoy when you choose off-season travel, something we hope that we have made abundantly clear!
