Spring in many parts of the world is a bit uncertain, as winter is often reluctant to release its position to the next season in the lineup, but in Rocky Point, the opposite is true. Spring actually tiptoes into summer, offering warm days that encourage everyone to splash in the surf, while cooler nights will encourage snuggling closer to your favorite traveling companions as you engage in moonlight strolls along the shoreline of the Sea of Cortez.
When relaxing at home in your FMI Rentals spring sanctuary, you may find yourself keeping doors and windows open to the night air, letting the salt air and the roar of the surf speak to your heart as it fulfills your soul. If you are looking for extra reasons to visit during the spring, this guide to the top spring events in Rocky Point will have your seasonal journey leading you south of the border!
One Last Chance to Whale Watch
This first event is not so much an event as an opportunity to be amazed, as the month of March serves as a final farewell to whales. If you have never experienced a whale breaching the water, thrusting its massive body into the air as it twists, turns, and offers a surprisingly agile and graceful performance that is also magnificent and powerful, early spring is the time you can change that.
All the normal dolphin watching companies add whale watching to their itineraries, so you can sign up for a tour with Eco Fun Adventures, Del Mar Charters, or Rocky Point Adventures, knowing that they have the knowledge and the skills to take you where all the action is happening. If you are really lucky, you may find yourself sitting on your balcony that overlooks the sea one quiet moment, pondering the beauty of the scene before you and wondering about the possibilities of giving up your real life for the chance to live on the beach, and catch sight of a whale breaching not far from shore!
Mexico’s Family Day, 1st Sunday in March
Before the crowds, before the season even begins, Mexico celebrates Family Day (Dia de la Familia), offering a day set aside to just enjoy those who are closest to us. The International Day of Family, celebrated on May 15 throughout the world, is really just another day on the calendar in Mexico, but on this first Sunday in March, you will find our families celebrating each other at the beach, at local restaurants, and quite often at home, because home is where the family is.

No, there aren’t any parades or rides, and because the holiday falls on a Sunday, there isn’t a nationally recognized day off at work, but if you happen to be in Rocky Point on this wonderful holiday, you will feel the warmth, the love, and the genuine happiness of the families celebrating around you and may even decide to make it a tradition to visit Rocky Point every year on Family Day!
St. Patrick’s Day
You don’t have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Rocky Point, nor do you have to be in Ireland to celebrate, as you will soon discover when you celebrate the holiday in Rocky Point. Just as in your American hometown, you can wear your favorite green clothing (although in Rocky Point it may be swimsuits or flip flops you will be wearing) and head to the local hot spots, including Manny’s Beach Club, JJs Cantina, and Bandito’s. Green beer, live music, and shamrock décor will be all the rage, and as you dance on sandy dance floors, alternating between green beer and margaritas, many of these wonderful places will also be serving food—probably not Irish cuisine, but delicious food all the same!
Spring Break
Obviously, the biggest event in the season is Spring Break, generally starting on the 2nd week of March and lasting through the beginning of April. Rocky Point is extremely popular with Arizona’s college students, all drawn to the town that is the closest beach town to their schools and all ready for a big party, but what makes Rocky Point really special is that it is popular for families as well. There are enough beaches in our coastal town that everyone can stake a claim on their own sandy territory, and everyone will enjoy the Spring Break vacation that they have always dreamed about. We’ve listed a couple of beaches below, dividing them into family and college student territories for your planning convenience.
Where the Party Is for College Students
Sandy Beach is where the party will be for college students, offering a lively atmosphere and a party vibe that will be memorable. This beach is the heart of it all, the waters buzzing with jet skis, banana boats, and parasailers, and while you are looking up at the sky you will probably see more than a few ultralight planes soaring over the waters. Ultralights, small aircraft that resemble tricycles with wings, are especially popular in the area, and if you want to bring your Spring Break celebration to new heights, Rocky Point Adventures are where you can start.

Sandy Beach is also where some of the area’s top night spots are located, including Manny’s Beach Club, Wrecked at the Reef, and Lucky’s Cantina, all offering sand dance floors, frosty tropical drinks, and live music, which might be why this area is so popular with the college students.
Although every property we offer is different, unlike many other vacation rental companies, FMI Rentals does offer rentals for adults 21 years of age and older, in comparison with most others that only rent to those 25 and older.
Quiet Fun for Families
College students aren’t the only ones who enjoy an extended time away from school in the spring, and if you are a family looking for a beachy Spring Break but really don’t want to deal with partying college students, Rocky Point can be the perfect spot for you as well. There are actually three different beaches you may want to look into renting near. Las Conchas, Playa Encanto, and Playa Mirador are our favorite family-friendly beaches, and of course, you will be able to find family friendly rentals either nearby or on the beaches.
Mother’s Day, May 10th and the Second Sunday in May
Although there will be some years, such as in 2026, where Mother’s Day will be celebrated on the same day, in Mexico it is a holiday set on a fixed day (May 10), while in the US it is celebrated on the second Sunday of the month, sometimes giving visitors two times to celebrate the most important women in their lives! Observed much the same way Americans celebrate, we do go the extra step, however, offering extended hours on Mother’s Day at restaurants, featuring mariachi bands to honor our madres, and making every mother feel special and loved.
Because we are so close to the US, most restaurants and businesses will celebrate alongside you and your family if you visit in a year when the holiday isn’t on the same day. If you are looking for a great gift for the mom in your life, other than the weekend in Rocky Point, consider gifting her a massage from La Bella Spa or simply giving her a few hours of beach time while you take the kids for ice cream at La Heladeria Gelato (but don’t forget to bring back some ice cream for her!).
Memorial Day Weekend
Considered the kickoff to summer, Memorial Day Weekend, while not a holiday technically celebrated in Mexico, is when our summer fun begins, and with all the Americans who travel south for the weekend, most businesses in town will offer their own celebrations.
Spend all day, every day on the beautiful beaches of Rocky Point, dining on sandwiches kept temperature appropriate in coolers that you may have found tucked away in the closet of your FMI Rentals seasonal retreat. Build sandcastles with the tinier travelers in your group, try not to fall on your backside when taking up boogie boarding with your teen, or just ride the banana boats across the waves, knowing that this all-American holiday was made extra special simply because you experienced it in Rocky Point!

The most popular night spots, JJs Cantina, Tequila Factory, and Elixir, will also be celebrating the holiday for all their American guests, because just as everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, everyone is American on Memorial Day!
Rocky Point Events at Home with FMI Rentals
As the mercury rises in the spring, so will the number of visitors heading to Rocky Point, and if on those days you just can’t find it in you to deal with people, staying home and enjoying your own family events will lead to the best memories of all. Below, we have listed a few of our favorite family friendly events in Rocky Point you will enjoy the most, showing you all the ways our FMI Rentals seasonal sanctuaries will become an integral part of your spring vacation south of the border!
Family Barbecues
Even our guests staying in our condo communities will have the opportunity to enjoy a family barbecue, as most will offer grilling areas as part of the community amenities. Some will feature fish cleaning stations as well, so after that family fishing trip, you can char your catch of the day without having to leave your retreat smelling like fish. And because spring is our dry season, devouring each bite of your barbecue meal while staying outside will make these al fresco meals one of your more memorable vacation experiences.
Pool Parties with Friends or Family
Just as no two snowflakes are alike, no two traveling parties are alike, and whether you are here to celebrate Spring Break with your college friends, enjoying a family vacation while the littles are out of school, or even here for a bachelorette party, savoring your last moments as a single, a pool party will be one of your favorite activities.

Spring is when the weather begins to warm up, and many of our pools will be heated, so you can swim even when the night is a little chilly. We invite you to put the blender in your fully equipped kitchen to good use, (There are plenty of easy margarita recipes to find on the internet!) slip into the new bikini you purchased on sale, and prepare to soak up some sun!
Game Nights for Everyone
While some of our retreats will offer pool tables or other types of gaming equipment, we think a good old-fashioned board game night is what a beach vacation needs to be complete. Many of our vacation rentals in Rocky Point will offer the basics (Monopoly, Scrabble, Candyland), and you are encouraged to bring your own favorite games as well. Even if you just choose to play Spoons while laughing loudly or a game of cards (Spades, Rummy, or Go Fish are some popular ones), we can assure you that an evening spent gathered around a table, chatting, eating, drinking, and playing games will serve as the perfect ending to another perfect day in Rocky Point!
